FEARS: Nikki's greatest fear is that her father will follow her and her Mum to America. Although he has left them alone for the past few years, Nikki just can't get over the fear that one day he'll show up on their doorstep again. SECRETS: Although she hates relationships, Nikki wants more than anything for someone (whether male or female) to prove her wrong about her assumptions on love and relationships and show her that they are worthwhile and that's why people put themselves through the pain of it all. HOBBIES: Nikki has a habit/hobby of doing something weird or whacky if she feels that she's becoming invisible in the room. For instance, she was out with friends at a bar once and she began to feel as if they were more interested in their date's than the conversation they'd been having, so Nikki picked up the hat and cane she'd brought with her and got up on the bar, performing a tap dance on top of it, successfully getting everyone's attention back. *Nikki doesn't see a problem with going out in public in outfits that most people would find a little strange, and perhaps wouldn't have chosen to wear themselves. This is partly to do with her need for attention, but more just a habit she's had since childhood when her parents were too busy arguing with each other to choose out clothes for their young daughter and instead left her to choose her own clothing. Because of this, Nikki has a very....unique sense of style; she is happy to walk out the door in suit pants, sneakers and a boob tube. PERSONALITY: Nikki is a lot like a hyperactive five year old on a sugar high. And that's when she's not on a sugar (or any other substance) high herself. Basically from a young age, she has had this constant need to be happy, probably because she was sick of hearing her parents fighting all the time and she just wanted something to be happy about her life, so why not make herself happy all the time? As she grew older and started to learn more about life, Nikki fell in with a group of kids at school who, lets just say, most parents wouldn't want their children hanging out with. Yes, these kids did drugs, they skipped school and they were basically just the type of kids that parents and teachers hated. Nikki loved them, and strangely, her Mum did too. Probably because after meeting the group, she found that they weren't bad kids and because they hid their drug habbit from her. Of course Nikki got into drugs, but not to the extent of some of her friends; mainly because she was on a natural or sugar high most of the time, so she only took drugs when she couldn't keep up her happy feeling by herself.
Nikki never felt more at home than when she was hanging out with these friends and they became her family after a while. Nikki knew she could trust these people with everything, and they could do the same with her. After moving to America, she lost contact with a lot of them as not many had internet access, and moved around too much to send letters to. However Nikki remained a loyal and fierce friend to them, and if she were to ever see them again, she knows that things will be the same as they were before. Once she moved to America, Nikki's fierceness as a friend came with her--whilst she hates getting emotionally attached to people in a romantic way, she loves to make friends, and if you become a close friend, then she will protect and be loyal to you to the enth degree.
FATHER: luke somners MOTHER: ashley crista SIBLINGS: n/a PETS: n/a HOMETOWN: Sydney, Australia HISTORY:
Nikki Somners was born in Sydney, Australia to parents Luke and Ashley. For the first few years of Nikki's life, her parents appeared to be completely in love and devoted to their only daughter; when Nikki remembers these years, she can't remember a time when she felt happier or safer since. However, when Nikki turned 10, this all changed. Her father seemed to become distant from Nikki, and her parents never seemed to touch or be near each other anymore. To the young girl, this seemed very strange, but as her parents didn't tell her anything was wrong, she tried to ignore the growing distance in her family, and pretend everything was still fine and that they were a happy family. This pretense lasted until Nikki was 12, and on the last day of Primary school, she came home to her father packing his belongings into his car and driving off.
Nikki never found out what it was that finally caused her parents to decide that her father shouldn't live at home anymore, but from that afternoon and for the next five years, she and her Mum lived in the house by themselves, with her father coming by from time to time to "check on them" and make sure everything was ok. As Nikki got older, she trusted her father less and less; she never expected him to hurt either her or her Mum, but she didn't believe that he was really coming over just to check on them at all hours of the night and day. The less she trusted her father, the closer Nikki became to her Mum, so much so, that her Mum was almost like a best friend to Nikki. That doesn't mean that she tells her Mum everything though.
After Nikki started high school, her habit of being happy most of the time began to accelerate until she had to be happy all the time; and Nikki found that it didn't matter what made her happy, just so long as she stayed happy. In grade 9, she changed friendship groups, falling in with a group that most people at school avoided if they could. This group introduced Nikki to the world of illegal substances and the happy light headed feelings that came with it. Nikki is a smart girl though, and she knew not to get too heavily involved with drugs or her Mum would find out; but the recreational use of them, she couldn't see a problem with. Hanging out with these friends, Nikki also so the consequences mixing drugs with relationships had, and so she vowed never to get romantically involved with any of her new friends, and anyone she did get involved with, she wouldn't allow herself to get emotionally attatched; after watching her Mum and father fighting about the divorce, and the amount of boyfriends her Mum had gone through since her father had left, Nikki didn't want to go through the same pain.
At the end of grade 11, her Mum dropped a new bombshell on Nikki -- her new job as manager of an advertising company meant that the two of them had to move to Florida, where the base company building was. Nikki would be going with her and attending an American high school for her senior year. Nikki wasn't all that pleased to hear this news, she was looking forward to spending her final year with her friends while she decided if she wanted to go to uni, and if so, what she wanted to study; but the appeal of not having to worry about when her father would next show up on their doorstep and the chance to start a new life was something to look forward to. So, she and her Mum packed up their things, sold the house that Nikki had lived in all her life and moved to America to start a new life.
Now, two years after being in America and beginning her second year of college, Nikki has settled in to living in America, sure she still worries about her father turning up sometimes, but this doesn't plague her thoughts as much as it used to, she's enjoying studying at college, and although she's just transferred to South Hampton college to find out if she can live without her Mum, she's looking forward to making new friends here and seeing what the rest of her life has to bring.
NAME: Pixxie GENDER: female AGE: 19 OTHER CHARACTERS: n/a EXPERIENCE: 5 years
ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE: Nikki looked around the room in her Mum's new apartment; because Nikki would be at boarding school for the next year, she and her Mum, Ashley had agreed that there was no point in renting a house if Nikki would rarely be there, so they had settled on this cosy two bedroom apartment. It was big enough that when Nikki was there it wouldn't feel crowded, but when she wasn't, it wouldn't seem large and lonely for her Mum. "So, what do you think about Florida so far?" Ashley asked her daughter, a hopeful smile on her face. Nikki smiled back, one that said everything was fine "It looks great, I'm loving the weather, not quite as hot as home, but it's not freezing here either." She replied. This was true, one thing about Australia that Nikki had hated was the constant heat in summer, it was impossible to escape somedays, but the pleasant heat of Florida was good, and Nikki had a feeling that she would grow to like the weather here, and hey, she'd finally get to have a white Christmas, and who didn't want that?
