The sky was a plain blue the color of a blue cotton shirt that had been washed many, many times and was now fading. There were no clouds above but just over the distant mountains was a clump of large clouds that looked like one huge, wave that could barrel down at any moment but chose to remain by the tips of the mountains. The grass tickled Krissy's cheek as she turned to look at Grant. His calloused hands were folded behind his head, hunter eyes looking at the mountains she had just been observing. She reached over to kiss his check. He had shaved just 2 days ago but he was already just past stubbly. She didn't mind, she only minded the day after he shaved when the hairs of his cheeks hurt her lips to kiss. He turned his head and met her eyes before moving his arm to put around her. She laid her head on the nook between his shoulder and chest where she fit as perfect as a puzzle piece and they continued to admired the sky in silence.
It was very peaceful, especially after the fight Krissy and Taryn had the night before. Taryn had convinced Krissy to help her clean the house all morning so they could have some people over. Some people turned out to be 16 drunk kids including Taryn's cheesy and skeezey boyfriend Pete. Pete was especially drunk and came up to Krissy addressing her as Taryn, draping his arm heavily over her shoulders and trying to kiss her cheek. She clarified who she was for him and after a few seconds of thinking he didn't seem to mind this fact and left his arm, leaning in to her cheek again but closer to her lips. "Whoa, drunkboy time for you to sit down." She said and slid out from under his arm to guide him into a chair. He tugged her down onto his lap and grabbed her face, planting a wet kiss on her lips. She pinched her eyes shut then pushed on his chest. Instead of getting him off as she intended she flew off his lap and landed on her butt as if she had been yanked. And she had. Taryn had pulled her off Pete by her shirt. Krissy looked up at her sister, then pete then back at her sister. Taryn's eyes were daggers for Pete and Krissy. "You aren't Taryn." Pete slurred as if he had been the one tricked. He tried to take Taryn's hand but she shook him off. "Some sister you are." She said, venom leaking off every syllable and burning Krissy's feelings. "I didn't-" She began but Taryn pulled Pete into the bathroom and locked the door. Krissy stood up and spent the rest of the night in her room.
Grant picked her up the next morning to cheer her up and here they were. "Come on." Grant said, retracting his arm and hopping up to offer her a hand. She took his hand and he gently pulled her up to her feet. She dusted off her butt and knees as he walked over to his bike and slung one leg over with ease. She followed his path to the bike while he started it. He handed her a plain black helmet once she had mounted the bike behind him. The first few times he took her for a ride she argued he needed a helmet too but by now she knew he thought her safety was more important but didn't feel like another helmet for himself was necessary. The bike purred under her as she put the helmet on and wrapped her arms around his torso tight. He craned his neck for a kiss before gassing it forward. The wind nibbled her cheeks so she laid her cheek between Grant's shoulder blades. she took a last peak back at the field of grass and mountains and rolling clouds. It were as if the cloud waves were about to crash on top of them but Grant whisked them to safety with speed. She laid her cheek back between his shoulders and let her eyes close.
